Lady Sabres take two

News Nov 22, 2006 Flamborough Review

The FGHA Peewee Sabres rep team recently won their first regular season game against the Hamilton Hawks at Chedoke Arena by a score of 2-1.

Sabres goals were scored by Morgan Walters and Blair McConnochie, with Lindsey Tracey assisting on both. Kelly Henley was awesome between the pipes, holding off the Hamilton offense and keeping us alive during several short-handed situations throughout the game. Congrats to Danielle Gifford for an outstanding game on defense.

The Sabres played their second game at home in North Wentworth Arena against the Stoney Creek Sabres. Nicole Drochner scored in the third period after a scramble in front of the SC net, and her persistence paid off with what would be the game winning goal, assisted by Blair McConnochie. Brittany Kerkhof played an outstanding defensive game, including an awesome forward rush, and Henley saved every shot that came at her, earning a well deserved shut-out.

Head coach Jeff Gifford is proud of the way the girls have gelled so early in the season, resulting in clean, competitive hockey - and they're having a great time in the process. Go Sabres!!!
