The push is on for French Immersion

News Nov 22, 2006 Flamborough Review

The Waterdown Parents for French Immersion (FI) are doing everything possible to let local parents know that hopes for a FI program in the community is still very much on the radar screen.

"We're hoping for the introduction of a FI program for Senior Kindergarten (SK) in Waterdown in September 2007," committee member Kyra Paterson told the Review. Part of the group's ongoing strategy is to get the word out and encourage area residents to sign their name to a list urging the Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board to establish its first FI program in a school outside Hamilton's city core.

Paterson and several other committee members will be actively promoting the new program next Thursday (April 27) when the board hosts a FI Information Meeting at Waterdown District High School (WDHS). The meeting will run from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will feature a presentation about FI programs offered by the public board. Gisele Portelance, the board's FI consultant, will make the presentation.
