Waterdown raids the competition at Provincial Cup tourneys

The Waterdown Raiders Volleyball Club comprises six teams competing in the Ontario Volleyball Association tournament season again this year. The club is represented in the girls 12U, 13U,14U,15U,16U and 18U categories with the 18U team competing under the banner of MAC (Mountain Athletic Club).

The tournament season officially started on October 22, with both the MAC 18U team and the Raiders 16U squad competing in the 18U Girls Provincial Cup.

The MAC 18U team traveled to Barrie to participate in the Zone B Girls Provincial Cup tournament with 11 other teams. They started the day by winning all their pool play games, ending the day with a fourth-place finish after being defeated by the Stratford Stingers in the bronze medal match.

Raiders 16U were the youngest of the 10 teams in the Zone C tournament in Whitby. They ended up with a seventh place finish, defeated in the quarter-finals by the Scarborough Falcons.

Over the last weekend of October, Raiders 16U took the bronze medal at the 16 & Under Girls Provincial Cup in Cambridge, after dropping one game to the Waterloo Tigers Black. The Tigers went on to win the tourney.

The 16U and MAC 18U teams play again on November 26, in the 18U Girls McGregor Cup. MAC 18U will be in Tier 2 playing at Humber College and Raiders 16U are playing at U of T Scarborough Campus in a zone tournament. Raiders 15U were slated to play in their own Provincial Cup on November 12 in Kitchener.

The roster for this year's MAC 18U team includes Larissa Puhach, Laura Bye and Alicia Garner of Burlington, Adrianne Kolich, Katie McHugh and Sarah Kiernan of Hamilton, Oakville's Janine Serratore, Katie Kalata and Margot Randall as well as Carley Hanna of Waterdown.

The Raiders 16U team includes Cassandra Novak and Charlotte Swanson of Burlington, Campbellville's Courtney Copeland, Brittany Wingrove, Erin Trinier and Kaitlyn Krizmanich of Carlisle, Megan Nederveen and Michelle Spadafora of Dundas and Hamilton's Lindsay deVet. Marla Allison of Lynden, Carrie Kalata of Oakville and Sarah Rosso of Waterdown round out the team.
