A fiddlin' good time

If you love music - playing it or just tapping your toes - the Waterdown Legion is the place to be.

Thanks to organizers Howard Alderson and Scott Donaldson, both members of the popular 551 Fiddlers band, a weekly jam session takes place from 1-4 p.m. every Thursday. The format, said Alderson, is designed for fun.

"We'll play for 15 minutes or so, then walk around and socialize," he said. "Then we'll play again."

Alderson noted that he'd like to see local seniors come out and enjoy the old-time fiddle music, perhaps make an afternoon outing with a group.

"People can come and listen, or bring along their own string instrument. It's free admission," he said.

While the jam session is something new, said Alderson, the 551 Fiddlers have been around for a number of years.

They plan to continue to play dances at the Waterdown Legion (79 Hamilton St. North) on the second Friday of every month, starting at 7 p.m.
