Hwy. 6 accident victim succumbs to injuries

The Burlington Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision that took place on Hwy. 6, north of Concession 7 East on Friday (October 19).

At approximately 3:30 p.m. a Ford Taurus, driven by a 21-year-old male from Burlington, was traveling south on Hwy. 6 when he drifted onto the gravel shoulder. In an attempt to regain control of his vehicle, the driver over-corrected and crossed over into the northbound lanes of the highway. As a result, the Ford Taurus struck a Mazda Miata head on.

The driver of the Miata, a 65-year-old female from Kilbride, was airlifted to Hamilton General Hospital and later succumbed to her injuries. Her name has been withheld until the next of kin has been notified.

The driver of the Taurus was also transported to Hamilton General Hospital with serious injuries.

The OPP Traffic Support Unit is seeking the public’s assistance in this ongoing investigation. Anyone who may have witnessed this crash is asked to call the Burlington OPP Constable Janet Scholes at (905) 681-2511.
