Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board Trustees have elected a new chair and vice chair.

They voted in Ward 8 trustee Al Pierce at the December 5 meeting. He replaces Ray Mulholland while Ward 7 trustee Lillian Orban takes over for outgoing vice chair Reg Woodworth.

Pierce has been a trustee for two years and Orban has been a trustee for 13 years.

"My focus will be on improving student success, employee morale and continuing to build greater confidence in the board," said Pierce.

"I want to thank outgoing chair Ray Mulholland and vice chair Reg Woodworth for their tireless work on behalf of the Board and our students. Their dedication to the success of our children is beyond question."

Mulholland has been a long time trustee in Ward 4 and has sat as local public board chair, and vice chair, for 14 years. "I wanted to make sure staff were always treated right and build good relationships," he said. "I will continue to be Ward 4 trustee until I die or until they kick me out. Which ever comes first."

The board has also hired Sharon Stephanian as the new Superintendent of Education, replacing Jim Wibberly, who went to the Grand Erie Board.
