Local support drives golf tourney to success

News Nov 22, 2006 Flamborough Review

Thanks to the generosity and support of local sponsors, the First Annual Jordan Moxam Memorial Golf Tournament was a great success.

This year, we had set a goal of $15,000 to provide approximately 15 underprivileged children the opportunity to participate in sports and we hit $10,000 - still an amazing amount! Thanks again for helping us get this far.

The Jordan Moxam Memorial Sport Programs came to be when our son Jordan, at the age of 12, went on to glory after a long battle with cancer. Our hopes are to keep his memory and name alive by providing the opportunities that Jordan had, to other children who may not get that chance without your help and ours. By helping with this golf tournament, you have partnered with us to provide children with a very special opportunity and we are grateful for your support.

A little about how these funds will be used:

Playing organized sports provides many benefits for children, but it is not cheap. By the time equipment is purchased and registrations fees are paid, it can easily run between $750 and $1,200. It is our goal to help children and their families who cannot afford to put their kids into sports by providing them with hockey and lacrosse equipment so they too can benefit from being on a team and learning life lessons.

For hockey and lacrosse, we have partnered with a number of organizations to provide children who have the desire an opportunity to participate in either sport. The children will spend the day at an arena, where they will be outfitted with a set of equipment, followed by a day of instruction. They will then be put into contact with the hockey or lacrosse association in their community, so that they can participate in the upcoming season. For lacrosse, Jordan's true love, we are currently negotiating to have the day winding up with a game of lacrosse at the Air Canada Centre, followed by seats at a Toronto Rock match.

We hope that next year, on Saturday, September 16, 2006, local sponsors will again be able to help us out and perhaps spend the day with us on the course. Thanks again for your support and we look forward to growing our fund to help more and more kids each year.
