November 11

News Nov 13, 2008 Flamborough Review

Young soldiers’ eyes so full of hope, unaware the horrors soon to cope.

Fathers, sons and brothers all, mothers, sisters, daughters fall.

Their eyes stare out in stoic grief, the pain and loss beyond belief.

One by one, they won’t come home, external battlefields set to roam.

Remembrance of our comrades lost, a noble war but at what cost?

Their futures sacrificed for cause, so once a year we stop and pause

To bow our heads and feel pride, that each of them had held inside.

For Queen and Country, they would say, as others fight another day.

May all come home soon safe and sound, I’ll be there to buy a round.

So let them know that we all care, for they so unselfishly dare.

When all elevens meet today, remembers those that are still away.

Wear the poppy bright red, and honour heroes alive and dead.
