A child’s Earth Day wish

Dear Editor,

I want to make the world a better place. We need to care about what’s going into the garbage.

We need to start making the right choices at the grocery store. I like packaged food because I like Fruit Roll-ups. I like the wrappers on cookie containers because they are cool. I like Koolaid Jammers because they have cool designs on them.

Unfortunately, all the things I like have a lot of garbage wrappers. Reusable bottles are better choices. It’s better to use containers instead of plastic bags to carry our snacks because Ziploc bags end up in the landfill.

Lastly, we need to consider the way we carry our groceries out of the store. Four to five trillion plastic grocery bags are made per year. We throw away billions of grocery bags a year and almost all of them go to the landfill. Everybody should use reusable bags!

This is how we start to make the world a better place because we need to start making the right choices.

Throw less in the garbage and use containers!
