Digging up candidates' history revealing

News Nov 22, 2006 Flamborough Review

I have taken the time to research the various positions of each of the local candidates in the riding of Ancaster-Dundas-Flamborough-Westdale. How shocked I was to discover that David Sweet, the Conservative candidate is the immediate past president of the Canadian Chapter of "Promise Keepers," an ultra right wing religious organization that originates in the United States. It encourages its members, who must be male, to assume an authoritarian role in their families. It is so rigid that it is regarded by the National Organization of Women (www.NOW.org/issues/rights) as a threat to the many equal rights that female citizens have gained over time.

I have searched the biographical information offered by Mr. Sweet's campaign, and have been unable to find any reference to his recent leadership role as this organization's immediate past president. I wonder why he or his campaign advisors chose to keep this information hidden. Is this being purposely hidden from us? Is this representative of a accountable and transparent Stephen Harper government?
