Bandits in second place in Grand Valley play

Beverly Bandits Bantam Boys have wrapped up 2005 regular season play in the Grand Valley League, with a solid hold on second place.

Beverly defeated Plattsville 3-0. Brett Ofield led the way with two goals and Steven Laurence added a single marker in the win, while netminder Steve Bancraz got the shutout. In a battle for first place, Twin Centre defeated Beverly 2-1. Jordan Grundy scored the lone Beverly goal. Beverly hosted and won the annual Bantam tournament in Rockton over the holiday break.

The Bandits opened the tournament with a 5-0 win over Glanbrook as Bancraz recorded his second shutout in as many games. Brett Ofield scored two goals, while Joel Blanken, Nick Weaver and Steven Morgenweg added singles.

In a hard-fought game against St. Catharines, Beverly ended up on top by a score of 2-1. Zack Anderson and Weaver scored the Beverly goals. Unfortunately, hard working winger Ray Gaffney was lost for the season when he crashed into the boards and suffered a broken leg.

Beverly continued their fine play with a 3-0 shutout over London. Bancraz was in net, while the line of Weaver, Blanken and Anderson each scored a goal.

In the championship game against Mooretown, Beverly came out on top, 4-0. Kelsan Gehlert earned the shutout, while the line of Ofield, Laurence and Morgenweg paced the Beverly attack. Laurence and Morgenweg scored two goals each, while Ofield added 3 assists.

The Bandits followed up their tournament success by defeating Ayr 7-2 in league play. Joel Blanken scored a pair of goals for Beverly, while Lyle Edworthy, Steven Laurence, Taylor Jenson, Brett Ofield and Ian Clunies added single markers.
