Beat the winter blahs - for a great cause

News Nov 22, 2006 Flamborough Review

As the winter months drag on, many of us dream of the tropics - but not all of us get there. The local Soroptimist International chapter has come up with a great way to escape and boost a great cause at the same time.

The 17th installment of the group's Caribbean Dance will be held at Marquis Gardens in Ancaster on Saturday, March 4, and will feature dinner, fun activities, a dance and cash bar. The theme will be all things Caribbean.

Tickets for the dinner/dance are available at $50 each; the Soroptimists expect a crowd of 200 people from the Ancaster, Dundas and Flamborough areas, and expect to raise more than $7,500.

In addition to supporting the event through ticket purchases, several levels of corporate sponsorships are also available. A $450 contribution will put a company's name and description on the evening's program, which will be distributed to everyone in attendance. In addition, the sponsors' names will be announced by the emcee during the evening. Contribution receipts and tax receipts for a portion of the cost will also be provided.

Companies can also opt to become a "Business Partner," by providing raffle or door prizes; or by making a $20 cash donation to the "Wheelbarrow of Wine" raffle.

All proceeds from the Soroptimists' Caribbean Dance will be donated to the new YWCA of Hamilton's child care centre.
