Junior Bulldogs put the bite on silver at Preston tourney

Hamilton's Minor Atom AAA Junior Bulldogs were on the prowl at the recent Preston Tournament, putting the bite on the competition right up to the end of the championship game.

But after outscoring their opponents 28-7 in five outings, the Bulldogs settled for silver after giving up the final to the Toronto Red Wings.

The Hamilton boys came out scoring, getting ahead of the Markham Waxers early and staying ahead for a strong 10-2 finish.

Brandon Kolaski, Christopher Haigh, Jordan Harris, Carlo Difeo, Justin Bell and Connor Murphy scored one apiece, while Quentin Maksimovich and Michael Werner both found the back of the net twice. Michael Singh was in net for the win.

Michael Caluori was in net for the win in game two, against Brantford. Haigh, Adam Burnett, Difeo, Maksimovich and Bell scored the Bulldogs' markers in the 5-1 Hamilton victory.

Up against West Seneca in game three, Cristiano DiGiacinto started the scoring for the Bulldogs, followed by markers from Alexander Viola, Haigh and Michael Menicanin for a 4-1 win. Caluori was in net.

SHUT OUT

Hamilton shut out the Markham Waxers in the quarter-final match, with the Bulldogs' five markers coming from diGiacinto, Maksmovich, Haigh, Werner and Difeo. Singh was in net.

The Bulldogs edged out London in the tight semi-final match, 4-3.

Werner, Haigh, Difeo and Maksimovich nabbed one goal apiece; Singh was in net.

Up against a tough Toronto team, Hamilton just couldn't hang on for the tourney gold, despite two markers from Murphy and one from Kolaski. Singh and Caluori shared netminding chores. Final score: Toronto Red Wings 6, Hamilton Bulldogs 3.

Back in regular AAA league play, Hamilton got back that winning feeling, defeating Welland 13-4.

Werner got the hat trick, while Nathan Tandan, Murphy and Haigh netted a pair each. Maksimovich, Menicanin, DiGiacinto and Difeo added singles. Caluori was in net for the win.

The Bulldogs had to tighten the leash a little in their next match, against a tough Halton team. Murphy, Maksimovich and Bell scored for Hamilton, to eke out a 3-2 win. Singh was in net.
