Raiders strike gold at local volleyball tourney

The Waterdown Raiders 15U volleyball team won its second gold medal of the season last weekend at home, when the club hosted the Tier 2 15U Challenge Cup at Waterdown High School.

The 15U Raiders placed first in their pool after round robin play and went on to defeat Toronto West 2-0 games in the quarterfinals and then Durham Attack Red 2-0 games in the semi-finals.The Raiders captured the Gold medal in a 2-0 win over Kingston Pegasus in the championship match.

McGregor Cup

The Raiders 15U team captured its first gold medal at the Zone A 15U McGregor Cup in December, defeating the Waterloo Tigers White in the finals.

Thanks to its first-place showing, the Raiders 15-U team qualifies for the Tier 1 competition in March. Top-seeded teams move on to the OVA Provincial Championships in April.

Mike Fuchs and Rodney Manual coach the Raiders 15-U team, which includes local players Chantal Renaud, Jaclyn Howard, Victoria Lamperth and Elizabeth Baker.
