Speed and alcohol were determined to be contributing factors in a fatal snowmobile accident Saturday night in Flamborough that took the life of a 36-year-old Dundas man.

Hamilton Police Service and EMS responded to a call at 7:44 p.m. at 1245 Westover Rd., where a male had been found unresponsive by friends who called 911. The  man was pronounced dead at the scene.

A lone male had left friends at a nearby residence on a snowmobile. Police believe, as the driver approached a tree line which he couldn’t avoid, abrupt steering caused the machine to flip, ejecting the man, and both he and the machine landed within the tree line.

Central station, divisional detectives, the coroner and collision reconstruction unit were contacted to investigate the fatal crash, which remains under investigation.

The man’s identity has been withheld at the request of family.
