Students at Westmount high school are being sent home because of a downed power line on the property. The public board said nearby schools are being closed as well. These are believed to be Buchanan Park, Westview and Westwood. Some 2,000 students are affected.

Board spokesperson Jackie Penman said a decision was made to close the schools because the power would not have been restored prior to school dismissal.

Penman said power has gone out at two Flamborough public schools. Queen's Rangers and Beverly Central are using emergency power.

Horizon Utilities is reporting a number of weather related power outages a across Hamilton Mountain and Ancaster.

The utility has reported power outages in the Wilson Street area of Ancaster as well as Nebo Road/Pritchard Road, Stone Church and Rymal roads, West Fifth Avenue. Power to all areas are expected to be restored by 1 p.m. Thursday.

Halton Catholic and public schools are closed, transportation cancelled Thursday morning.

Hamilton catholic and public schools are open.

A freezing rain warning has been lifted for Hamilton but remains in effect for Halton.

Environment Canada is also urging people to take extra care when walking and warns of possible hydro outages.
