Cogeco Connexion is unveiling a free wireless network for its customers in Hamilton.

The network will feature more than 300 hot spots, making it the largest provider in the city. The company says it has been working on strategic placements across Hamilton over the past several years.

The network will cover a variety of shops and services along high-traffic streets, including King Street, James Street and Concession Street.

The service comes in recognition of recent studies indicating that Wi-Fi data makes up 82 per cent of mobile data consumption.

Though the service is free, it will require signing in with Cogeco customer credentials. Non-Cogeco customers will be able to log in for a trial.

The service will not have a data cap for individual users and is touted as being high-speed.

Cogeco is the second-largest basic cable operator in Ontario and Quebec, and the 11th- largest hybrid-fibre operator in North America.
