Rob Ford’s family will reimburse the city the full cost of his visitation and funeral – reportedly costing around $19,000, they said in a statement.

“We have always fully intended to reimburse the City the full costs related to Rob’s funeral and memorial,” reads the statement, delivered via Ford’s executive assistant Dan Jacobs’ Twitter account.

“We were initially told that this amount would be minimal, under $1,000, which is well under what we are now told the final tally is. We still fully intend to reimburse the City and are now simply waiting to be given a strict accounting of all the costs incurred.”

The late councillor Rob Ford lay in repose at Toronto City Hall for two days at the end of March, and then was remembered at a public funeral at St. James Cathedral, where city staff also assisted in facilitating guests and logistics.

The cost, according to the city, was $18,678, and included the cost of opening Toronto City Hall on Easter Monday when it is normally closed and unionized staff receive overtime pay.
