Hamilton Conservation Authority announces photo contest winners

The Hamilton Conservation Authority (HCA), this week announced the winners of its 2016 Photo Contest.

The contest was open from Jan. 1 to Dec. 31, and received nearly 1,000 submissions in categories that included recreation, wildlife and nature. Judges selected the top three photos in each category, along with a grand prize winner.

The Grand Prize went to "Groundhog Hill" by Albert Wertherald.

In the recreation category, Sian Kane's "Last Cast at Fifty Point" was first, followed by "Fletcher Creek Ecological Preserve" by Marc Kirouac in second and "Run With Me Brother" by Anna Nguyen in third.

In the wildlife category, "Stare Much” by Buddy Myles earned first place, “Cedar Waxing” by Pat Wintemute was second and “Mantis Mantis in the Grass” by Hayley Sousa was third.

“Clouding the Waters: Sunset Over Christie Lake” by Rob Miller was first in the nature category, “Evening Walk” by Brien Thomson was second and the third place winner was “Orange Mushroom Valley Close” by Craig Leonard.
