LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Who's footing the bill for this?

Opinion Mar 23, 2011 Flamborough Review

It doesn’t take a CPA, a ‘bean counter’ or a kid in high school math class to see the City’s budget problems!

Wake up and look at the numbers, become fiscally responsible, don’t spend money the City doesn’t have in the bank (the taxpayers).

We should be prepared for a long strike as those ‘underpaid’ bus drivers, garbage collectors and office staff seek a raise. I can see where they will demand parity with the firefighters’ 9 per cent increase.

And it would be justifiable. Without transit, many can’t get to work, and if the garbage doesn’t get picked up, the City stinks, literally.

The unions have a great role model: the mayor. After all, he gets to pocket $45,000 income tax free.

How sweet is that? Our councillors get the same 33 per cent free deal as well.

As the old saying goes. “what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.” The problem is, we, the taxpayers, have to foot the bill.
