POLICE BEAT: Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday weekend

Opinion Oct 05, 2011 Flamborough Review

It’s that time of year again; the long Thanksgiving weekend is upon us.

Scouring the many reports which find their way to my desk, it occurred to me that so many involve family issues. Most disputes, unfortunately, are heightened by the use of alcohol and/or drugs.

Police officers must wear many hats during our work day. We are asked to be psychologists, ministers, counsellors, intermediaries, judge and jury – and sometimes all of these hats can be worn at the same incident. After 38 years as a police officer, you might say I have seen it all but thankfully, some things still amaze me. I guess that is why I’m still around.

Please be safe over the long weekend, look after those you love.  Don’t eat too much turkey.

This column will return after a two-week hiatus, one week of rest and relaxation and another of intense training.

Thank you for reading.
