Waterdown Wolves champs

Sports Sep 16, 2012 Flamborough Review

The Midget Boys Baseball Wolves made history recently, by becoming the first team from Waterdown to capture the Ontario Provincial Baseball crown at the "B" level. What this means is that Waterdown has the best team in the province of any municipality with a population of 25,000 - 35,000 people.

The group of 16- and 17-year-olds  been saved their best performance for the Provincial tournament held in Mississauga August 24-26.

Many of the players on the team have played together since they were six-years-old, progressing together through the ranks as they improved and this year defeated powerhouse teams from Mississauga and Niagara Falls during the regular season.

The team, coached by Mike Kinnear and assistants Geoff Jacques and Jarrett Macdonald, lost their first game in the provincial tourney to St. Thomas, but roared back to win the next five in a row, taking out Essex, Owen Sound, Stratford and then defeating the St. Thomas crew twice on Sunday afternoon.

After coming close in previous provincial championships at the AA level, the Wolves were determined not to let this one slip through their fingers. An enthusiastic and supportive fan base helped the lads on to victory.

The Wolves roster includes Cole Ainsley, Jordan Boyes, Zack Carr, Dan Cassar, Damian Clarke, Brad Kalsbeek, Jake Lambrink, Kyle Lewis, Cody McLaughlin, Jamie Peddie, Max Smith and Evan Sproule.
